And you call this Spring! As the Northeast recovers from it’s third Nor’easter in 3 weeks, I am thrilled to have the design of this Nantucket home to keep me in a “Summer mindset”. Completion is set for Memorial Day weekend – less than 2 months away!
I recently completed the redesign for this family’s Summit, NJ home when they asked me to take on the design of their new construction Nantucket home. WOW on so many levels. First, nothing feels better than having a client engage me for a second project! Next, the architecture of this home with its clean, modern design and incredible millwork details throughout is amazing. Finally – I have been in a Summer mindset all winter long!
Each room in the home has unique architectural details – floating stairs, glass panel stair rails, white painted shiplap, rustic wood beams, and light oak flooring. Intimate spaces with lots of windows – all embracing the remarkable ocean views. For the interior design, the client wanted a deviation from the style of their primary home in New Jersey. Echoing the architecture, the interiors were designed with the goal of creating a sleek inviting retreat with a focus on the blend of color and texture without taking attention away from the seaside setting and ocean views. Therefore, I selected a color palette and materials that reflect the beach location. Hues of blue, white and natural tones mixed with organic materials like rattan, abaca and jute and a range of unique wood species and finishes. Understanding the needs of a vacation home, I chose resilient materials and finishes that can withstand the test of entertaining in addition to the issues related to an oceanfront climate.
