Someone somewhere must have known how desperate we would be right about now for the signs of spring. My garden is finally revealing itself after being buried under at least two feet of snow. So, as the winter here in the Northeast still does not want to give way to Spring – I am happy to savor flowers all around us in fashion and home decor trends.
The flowers have been everywhere – on the runway, boutiques, fashion magazines, shelter magazines, fabric companies…. Coming from a background in the fashion world, I always find it interesting how fashion and interior design are interconnected. What you see on the runway in New York/London/Paris/Milan often makes into homes from the Hamptons/Upper East Side/Greenwich/Summit.
The homes I design carry floral touches which tend to be on the more subtle side. The Chatham, NJ living room below incorporates a floral accent in the side chairs backed with a botanical print fabric, and of course, the gorgeous peonies on the coffee table. In the Greenwich, CT dining room, host chairs with floral print upholstery and the tonal blue flower wallpaper are reflected in the lilacs on the table. And, at a Riverside Drive pied-a-terre in Manhattan, the delicate flowers in the Asian panels provide a soft backdrop in the master bedroom and complement the medallions on the bed cover.
After a season of floral deprivation, let’s enjoy these inspiring floral fantasies from fashion trendsetters across the board!!
Here’s to Flower Power!!
